Cars, coffee and sunshine at the Cuyp

The historic Albert Cuyp. Six days a week bustling with market traders, shoppers and tourists. One of Europe’s oldest street markets (est. 1905) located in the heart of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Last Sunday, this location hosted a gathering of amazing cars and their owners for a sunny and super relaxed Cars & Coffee-style morning.  

A rare opportunity

Opportunities like this are rare. Driving your cherished automobile through Amsterdam's centuries-old streets is memorable enough, but being able to park right on the iconic Albert Cuyp Market, in the middle of De Pijp, made the occasion feel truly unique. The contrast between passionately preserved automobiles and some of Amsterdam’s iconic architecture created a setting that can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world.

Car lovers are alike

The atmosphere was wonderfully informal. Owners chatted about their cars and restoration projects, shared stories and admired each other's cars while surprised locals and tourists wandered between the rows of cars. There were no trophies, no judging and no schedules; just a shared appreciation for automotive heritage and good company. And with an excellent coffee in hand (thanks to the guys and girls from Crema). 

We were delighted to join the party with our ’73 indigo grey Giulia Super and were also pleased to see a good number of other classic Alfa’s attending, proving once again that the Italian brand is very much alive and kicking.

Standout line up

While the event celebrated cars of every shape and era, several exceptional machines drew admiring crowds throughout the morning. Among these highlights were the breathtaking Aston Martin DB4 Zagato, to our humble opinion the most beautiful British grand tourer ever built. Italian elegance was represented by a touch of Maranello glamour with a stunning 328 GTB and a 812 Competizione Mille Miglia alumni. 

Zuffenhausen brought out some big RS guns and American muscle arrived in the form of a fire engine red Ford Falcon Sprint and black-and-silver 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. But what about that spectacular citron-yellow De Tomaso Longchamp, the DB5, the 850 Abarth, the Mark II and a dutch blue 1750 Berlina then? Well...uhm...yes to all please.

Simplicity is key

Sometimes the best events are the simplest ones. Organising party ClassicCarRatings.com knocked this one out of the park. A beautiful historic location, a collection of extraordinary automobiles, great coffee and lovely people. We’ll wrap this up and let our camera roll do the talking!  🏁
