Visiting The Gallery
This week, the Classic Steering Wheel Shop team had the pleasure of visiting Gallery Aaldering in Brummen, one of Europe's premier destinations for classic car enthusiasts. Housed in a stunning four-story neoclassical building, Gallery Aaldering boasts a collection of over 350 classic automobiles, offering a unique blend of automotive history and artistry. Their collection currently includes rare models such as the Bugatti Type 35, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing and - our personal favorite - the iconic Ferrari F40.
Geek behaviour
For obvious reasons, one of the most fascinating aspects of the visit was to study the diverse array of classic steering wheels featured in these vintage vehicles. From the elegantly simple wooden rims of 1940s British roadsters to the intricate leather 3 spoke designs of Italian sports cars, each steering wheel tells a story of design evolution and driving culture. Okay…we admit…it totally brought out the geek in us.
Preferred suppliers
Car manufacturers made distinct choices when it came to steering wheel design and supplier partnerships. These choices weren’t merely functional — they were deeply tied to the identity of the brand. For instance, Ferrari famously partnered with Momo for many of their 1980s models, resulting in bold, ergonomic designs that matched the performance-focused spirit of the cars. Meanwhile, Porsche, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, and others had their own preferred suppliers, each leaving a unique fingerprint on the driving experience. But that’s a story for another day as we will definitely highlight some of these in our upcoming features. Like on this Lancia Rally 037 Group B for example, the original Andrulet Mule-car!
We extend our gratitude to the Aaldering family for their hospitality and for maintaining such an exceptional collection that continues to inspire automotive enthusiasts worldwide. We left both fulfilled and highly motivated to source you only the best stock. 🏁
